Edible Oil Refining from Vegetable Plants
Edible oil refining involves a series of processing steps, primarily including degumming, neutralization, decolorization, and deodorization. Modern refineries are equipped with high-efficiency refining equipment to ensure stable production of high-quality edible oils that meet international standards.
Degumming removes phospholipids and gummy impurities that cause foaming, cloudiness, and oxidation. Water treatment or acid treatment effectively separates these impurities, enhancing oil clarity and subsequent refining performance.
Deacidification reduces free fatty acids that lower smoke points and produce off-flavors. This step is achieved through alkali neutralization or physical refining, improving oil stability and food safety.
Decolorization eliminates pigments such as chlorophyll and carotenoids that affect color and accelerate oxidation. Adsorbent clay bleaching improves oil appearance and antioxidant properties.
Deodorization employs high-temperature, high-vacuum steam distillation to eliminate volatile odor compounds and residual solvents, producing odorless oils with superior thermal stability.
